Rush-hour is painful business. Whether you opt for public transport or take the car, there are few things worse than squeezing onto a packed train carriage at 8.30am or getting stuck in deadlock traffic when you just want to get home and binge-watch Bridgerton.
And with several significant road closures in the pipeline, like the M25 and London’s Blackwall Tunnel, traffic could get particularly bad over the next few months. So, it would be useful to know which English roads are likely to have some of the longest delays.
Right on cue, brands Cromwell Trucks and Online Marketing Surgery have released their annual Road Delay Report, which reveals where people in England are at a standstill most often.
Eight of the ten worst roads are in London, with the A50204 in Westminster seeing the worst queues in the country. According to the report, vehicles wait an average of 471 seconds per mile.
Next up on the list was the section of road in Shropshire known as (deep breath) the A49 northbound between B4368 near Craven Arms (north) and A489. If you're planning to drive along there, be prepared to wait for up to 340.8 seconds per mile.
The third worst traffic jams in England can be found on the A3217 in Kensington and Chelsea, where drivers are at a standstill for an average of 336.6 seconds per mile. Fourth was the A103 in the London Borough of Haringey and fifth was the A4200 in Camden. Lesson of the day: you're probs better off getting the Tube.
